We are all working individuals , professionals who have come together by forming a group. We are working in social fronts – events at old age home, orphanages, street kids , differently capable kids and also for a Greener Kathmandu by conducting various plantation events at schools, giving out free tree saplings to the public by distributing them in malls and making our city the best place to live . We have started THE RUCKSACK PROJECT (KTM) and till date 4 projects have been held. We believe in the slogan ” CLIMATE CHANGE IS NO FAIRY TALE, ACTION WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE”

The people behind the drives

The Members

Shikha Bahety

Chartered accountant by profession, voice at the coolest online radio station – Rvl Radio, a blogger at Paradiso, and the founder member of The Ktm Drive describes me well.

It’s been two years since we started with the events at The KTM Drive. It feels so nice how a small idea which was discussed over a coffee on a normal conversation (where we spoke about the dust and pollution around the place and how it gets hard for people to breathe) turned out to be an ec0-friendly drive giving out about 200 free tree saplings at Civil Mall .We had no idea how one event led to the other. One after the other we grew, our idea expanded, and it was just not going green but other events which added to making the lives of the people greener. We have completed twenty two events till date.

There are so many who have asked us: – Why are you doing such events?? Is it a one-time thing?? What’s the drive all about??How are you being funded?? What do you get after organizing such events??Are you a NGO or like a NGO?? Still could not figure out what is the difference between the questions!!

THE ONLY ANSWER IS: – WE ARE DOING THE LITTLE WE CAN, FOR THE ONES WHO CANNOT AND WE HOPE WE HAVE INSPIRED MANY THROUGH OUR JOURNEY ~

Priti Bahety

She is the pillar to The Ktm Drive. It all started with her supporting the cause and giving in creative ideas for the different drive and events. It all happened on a conversation over coffee where we spoke about the respiratory problem being popular among the citizens of K-town. It was because of the road construction, the trees being cut on a stretch, the heavy vehicles emitting black smoke. Since we couldn’t eradicate the problem we started finding solutions on what could be done. The best one was creating awareness among people and encouraging them to plant trees in whatever space that they could find around the premises they were living in.

With her encouragement the events are more fun and awesome and it would not be possible if we did not have her around. From organizing the event to giving out clothes to the street kids she believes in Greener Ktm as each tree is being planted. She has a vision of seeing Kathmandu with green trees all around as it was two decades back, and with each drive we are taking one step towards our goal, she quotes.

Sachin Joshi

He is best with kids, the children adore him, he loves them, and as far as I have seen no one could be better with kids than him. Every drive where we have a team work or if it is a plantation drive at school, this member has to be there to make our events becomes all the more fun. Making the day enjoyable at an orphanage, or getting them involved with some or the other activity is his specialty.  He is amazing with any age group of kids –from toddlers to school kids – he can control them all.

Working as a full time and giving in ideas for the different events since the start of the The Ktm Drive has always motivated us.  The actions and differences that one can make in a society matter more than a formal registration of the group is what he believes in!!

Aayush Shrestha

There goes one of our very active members and a banker. Let’s see how KTM Drive happened to him.

I am someone who wants to be a good person in each step of my life and with KTM Drive it started perfectly. It has given me a platform and I can see the other side of me- the act of giving adds on to the magical blessing and smiles on faces whom I have never met. It’s already been a year since I am associated with the event. It all started with meeting an amazing person (Shikha, backbone behind KTM Drive) and the journey has been pure satisfaction for me. I encourage everyone to lend a helping hand for this noble cause.

Remember, “There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.”

Krishtina Adhikari

I am an aspiring chartered accountant by profession. A full time job in an INGO is my career & an active member of The KTM Drive is my passion. I always wanted to do something for the society, at least my part; to do so I was looking for the right platform & then I met Shikha di, the initiator of the drive. I found her idea about the drive impressive and immediately decided to join her (because this was the platform I had been looking for). Since then I have been putting efforts to do my share of responsibility towards the society. Not just me, we the members of the drive despite being full time working individuals have been managing time to be a part of this drive & it is all voluntary. After being a part of The KTM Drive I have felt the joy of giving, acknowledged the sense of satisfaction of fulfilling one’s duty.(trust me, I feel more than happy to have been a part of this noble initiation.) As a working individual it is not easy to balance work & drive together (Thanks to those long field visits on a monthly basis) but I have been trying my best & will keep doing so because it is my country & it is my responsibility. If every individual became aware of their responsibility, it is not long before the dream of a greener KTM & healthy society comes true. We the KTM Drive members are here to remind that small initiation matters &when we truly desire, nothing is impossible.

Khusboo Agrawal

I always dreamt of living in a greener and cleaner Ktm, but as the saying goes “It is easier said than done”. Like any other Ktmite, I cribbed about pollution, deforestation, and people looking for alms at the doors of temples and streets every day. Inspite of wanting to do much, I could not contribute as I was busy in studies, work and more which surely can be counted as excuses. Then one day Shikha came up with this idea of distributing free saplings to the people as a small step towards improved living and without any second thought I said “Yes I will be a part of it”. That day and today after 2 years, I can say Ktm drive and its drivers are proud of all the small things done to bring happiness to people with one or the other possible way. And I am proud to be one of them.

Rabin Shrestha

Hello. This is Rabin Shrestha from K-town itself. I have studied Environmental Science from The Netherlands and now making a career on the same area. I have always been involved in volunteer activities during my study period in regard with environmental issues. KTM Drive has given me chance to continue volunteer activity even in my professional life. It has also given me the opportunity to volunteer in social causes beside environmental issues. “BE GOOD, DO GOOD”.

Shailesh Sharma

Hi, my name is Shailesh Sharma, a marine science PhD candidate at Dauphin Island Sea Lab. I did my Bachelor and Master’s degree (in Environmental Science) at TU, Kathmandu. From my early TU days I have been involved in many volunteering activities raising environmental awareness in and around Kathmandu (which I continue doing today here on and around Dauphin Island such as coastal cleanup, discovery day).

Had to be a fate that I came in contact with Shikha via electronic media (although we have yet to meet in person 😉 ), we share common desire to make Kathmandu free of pollution and raising environmental awareness among the children and adults alike. Thus far, I have only been able to suggest the Ktm Drive team with my experiences and education about various Drive events in which Ktm Drive has been involved. One day, I hope to wear the Ktm Drive hat in the field and work with so many enthusiastic members of Ktm Drive team.

I think Ktm Drive is a small step for the environment, humanity and selflessness pioneered by enthusiastic members and I hope we will witness some major ripple effects in people living in Kathmandu and vicinity.

Nimesh Shrestha

First of all thanks to Voice Shikha & Rvl Radio:) !!! I am Nimesh Shrestha born in Dhankuta currently living at Kathmandu. I have been working as Sr. Marketing Assistant at Quest Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd since the last 8 years. I have always wanted to give and the platform at The Ktm drive made it all happen.

It’s already been a year I am associated with The KTM Drive. The KTM Drive has completed twenty one events till date. My first event was on 11th event, held at Disabled Newlife Center , Gokarna & after that I got so use it  that I have missed only one event (I,e 12th Event  plantation program at Bhanubhakta Memorial School). After the events are conducted, a sense of belonging to mankind and humanity is restored everywhere. We have inspired many on the way. The way the events are conducted and carried on is the best part in this group. The KTM Drive Members are awesome, HATS OFF TO ALL!!!

LET’S GO GREEN TO GET OUR GLOBE CLEANER.

Smjrifle Joshi

I came across voice Shikha from rvlradio, she had this crazy energy in her and as for ktm drive, i read some articles about the event. They were inspiring, it is a group of individuals who are working on to bring a change, and I had always been a strong believer in that.

I am a geek who loves fixing the things that are not broken to create something new and beautiful. I am found of doing different things, and supporting positive changes. I believe that we are the ones to bring in the changes, so am constantly up for fighting against the system to bring back freedom and humanity. There were days when I felt helpless looking at the surroundings, the internet as it has too many problems, but ktmDrive has given me a hope that it can be solved and here I am in ktmDrive trying to use the positive energy I gained to bring out positive changes to people and environment. Environment, Humanity and Freedom that’s what ktmDrive is all about for me, and fighting for it is everyone’s responsibility. And yeah, I am also the guy with the mask, and I wear a it not to hide who I am, but to create what I am :).

Ritima Shrestha

“An idea can change the world” – So I was told and now, I believe it does. Well, if not the world, probably our city?

The houses being dismantled, roads renovated and everyone being sick and tired of pollution; this was then – some 2 years back. Just over a simple coffee gathering, an idea popped into this crazy girl’s (I’m sure, everyone knows who it is by now ) head and she was like – “There is so much pollution in KTM these days, rather than whining and wailing about it all the time, why not start plantation in and around Kathmandu!!” This is how it all started; with just a simple idea! Hi, I am Ritima. Like each one of us, I would also love to see our city be a better place to live. With this little hope in our hearts, we try to put in all our effort to drive our events. Yet, I’d also like to say – it’s not just about the drives to green the city or spread the awareness or trying our tiny share to support the needy ones; it’s also about the unity and the togetherness among everyone thriving to help people; It’s also about the happiness and contentment you see on the faces of people we help and the Ktm drive members; it’s about all of us.

I am hoping, our small effort would bring about some changes in this beautiful city of ours.

Tshering Tamang

Hi,

I’m an animator from Kathmandu. Most of my time is spent by clicking buttons and playing with mouse of my computer. In whatever free time I get, I like to read, listen to music, sing a little, dance a little and do every little things I think is fun. 🙂

I came to know Shikha through Radio Revolution. And, I got to know about KtmDrive through her facebook posts, tweets and her blog.

A group of friends spreading happiness through the town, helping out people in need, that made me want to join them and contribute whatever I could to make this world a better place to live in.
So far, I’ve been to a couple of drives, and I have to say that true happiness lies in selfless help.
The best part about the KtmDrive is that it is not limited to a single cause. All the ideas are welcome as long as it’s about making things get better. It’s about hope.
Hope, That things can get better if we stand together.

Aashish Adhikari

It hasn’t been long since I’ve associated with KTM Drive; probably a little over 6 months now. Guys at KTM Drive strive to make Kathmandu a better place in all aspects. Whether it be planting trees for the environment or helping kids, elderly, and the needy, KTM Drive members do it from the heart and that’s beautiful. Thus, hand in hand with the group, my motive is to help out with whatever and whenever I can. I am Aashish Adhikari from Kathmandu.
